April/May Update

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I can’t believe I have already been back from Thailand for three weeks!  After each trip I take I always try to write a story of some sort about whatever God highlights from the trip.  A week or so ago I was able to get my story from this most recent trip on paper.  This particular story has forty years of history behind it, so it is a little longer than usual.  Also since we had a very specific intercessory focus for the trip, part of it sort of reads like “Ghostbusters-Jesus Style!”   But more than anything, I wanted to find the words to give God glory for what He did so I basically just told it like it happened (as far as I understand it anyway!). If you are interested in reading it, here is the link: http://www.waitingatthewell.org/articles/Three.pdf

On a more general note, things in the prayer room have been quite busy lately–especially on Saturdays.  Jesus has been so faithful to meet those who come in for prayer each week.  For me, it is just a privilege to get to join Him in declaring the good things on His heart over each person who comes through the doors. (It is also a privilege to minister with our faithful little team–love you Sue and Tracy!)  If you live in or near the Redlands area and would like to come in for prayer some Saturday, please be sure to call or email to make an appointment since it has gotten busy enough that it is becoming pretty hard to ensure we will be able to pray for those who just drop by. Click this link for contact info, directions or more info: http://www.waitingatthewell.org/well.html#Anchor-191-10937

On Thursday evenings at 7pm each week, we continue to intercede for the nations and the global church (including specifically for Israel on the last Thursday of each month) as well as for whatever else He puts on our hearts.  It is a great time of waiting on Him and then partnering with Him in speaking forth the things on His heart and mind.  Every week is different, but we always meet with Jesus, so it’s always good!

Still feel like we’re very much in a period of transition (I think that has been true since we opened!)  and I don’t know where everything will land, but I can honestly say that I am enjoying the journey so much right now that it really doesn’t matter where it all ends up or what it ultimately looks like.  Since the beginning of the year, the Lord has been lifting burden after burden off of my shoulders regarding the ultimate “outcome” of things and in the process He has rebirthed such an excitement and expectancy in my heart.  I know no matter what happens–it will be GOOD!   I just want to move where He’s moving and do what He’s doing.  Life works better that way :-)   And the cool thing about wanting to “move” with Jesus is that it is exactly what he desires for us–so I guess you could say I feel pretty confident that it’ll all work out just fine!  He is good!

Oh… I want to close with a funny (and wonderful) little testimony… I had lunch with my mom today as an early Mother’s Day celebration (she’ll be away on Mother’s Day).  She had a bad cough a week or so ago and ended up hurting her back (she actually felt like her rib was out of place).  She let me pray for her and Jesus fixed it!   I just got an email from her that included this funny line:  “Thank you for a lovely lunch, flowers, tea and healing.”   I’ve heard of tea and sympathy, but I think tea and healing is much better!  Yea God!!!

Back in the U.S. … Mission Accomplished!

Our team returned from Thailand Saturday night — a bit worn out physically but otherwise great after two tiring but rewarding weeks of prayer and hands-on ministry.  This was a trip with two tracks: The “hands-on” track where we partnered with a few different ministries serving in ways as diverse as ministering to prostitutes on the streets and in the bars of Bangkok, to HIV testing kids at a Children’s Home in Chiang Mai, to leading a prayer workshop and washing feet at a large conference of Karen Tribe believers in Maesot!  The second was the “intercession” track where we spent a significant amount of our time and spiritual energy interceding for the nation itself.  Typically this kind of ministry is a bit tougher to “quantify” but we believe the Lord granted us “good success” in our very specific mission and confirmed it in some pretty compelling ways.

I look forward to finding the words (at some future date!) to convey the gratitude of heart I feel for being allowed to partner with Jesus in this great adventure.  As the jet lag wears off and I begin to (hopefully) think a bit more coherently, I will endeavor to post more, so stay tuned!

Greetings from Thailand!

Greetings from the land of smiles!    Wanted to take a few minutes to post a bit of an update on our trip for those who don’t receive the email updates.

As always, we have had many opportunities to trust Jesus, but He has been faithful in all things.  Here are a few highlights (so far) and prayer requests…
We arrived VERY early Sunday morning and after a few hours of rest and getting acclimated, we headed out to Patpong (the red light district) that night and had a great evening of ministry.  Surprisingly we had the opportunity to minister to as many men as women.  We had brought some plastic babies from a pro-life organization that were a scale model of a baby developing in the womb at 12 weeks.  We also had cards with an explanation of the babies along with a few verses from Psalm 139 translated into Thai.  The men saw us with the bag of babies and in curiosity approached us.  Many of them seemed more intrigued than some of the women (although we had opportunity to share with many of the girls too).  One guy in particular was really moved and we had the opportunity to pray with him.  Please continue to pray with us that the seeds planted that night would bear good fruit!

On Monday, we had the opportunity to take a brief trek out to Min Buri (about a 45 min to an hour ride from where we were staying in Bangkok) to visit SEAHOP (Southeast Asia House of Prayer) and the ACTS 2 Revival base and school of ministry.  It is summer here and most of the students are on break, so we weren’t really able get a feel for what a regular prayer watch there looks like, but it was still so encouraging visiting with the staff and hearing their hearts!  Jesus is stirring hearts in Thailand!!!  The base still faces many challenges as they move toward a vision of 24/7 prayer and worship, but I felt so blessed to be able to pray into this exciting move of God.  Please pray with us that God will raise up laborers and that He will fulfill all that is in His heart for SEAHOP

On Tuesday we spent the entire day and well into the night with NightLight in the Nana area (another red light district).  During the day we had opportunity to pray with some of the staff and with some of the women who have come out of the sex trade and who now have jobs making jewelry with NightLight.  One of the first women we prayed for came from a background of strong demonic bondage (her mother was a medium) and she had several recurring physical problems with spiritual origins that she had not been able to break free from.  During our time of prayer, Jesus set her completely free as she was delivered and healed!  She was literally dancing and jumping up and down in praise when she left and it was hard to recognize her as the same person who came in!  Another woman came in wanting us to pray for her father (he is hospitalized and also in need of salvation) but she didn’t tell us she had come in with significant pain all over her body.  While we were praying all the pain left her!  Please continue to pray with us for her father’s salvation and healing and for the many other needs of the girls at NightLife (and for the staff).  We spent a couple of tough hours on outreach with them in the bars that same night and the depth of need just overwhelms you and breaks your heart.  I am so glad we serve a God who overcomes!

Wednesday afternoon we went back to minister at NightLight and Wednesday night we went back out to Patpong (with flowers for the girls).  Yesterday (Thursday)  we spent most of the day praying at the Grand Palace.  We could already sense the shift in the spiritual atmosphere while we were there and know that God has already done a significant work of breakthrough. Please continue to pray that Jesus will have His inheritance in Thailand.

We arrived in Chiang Mai an hour or two ago and will soon be heading out to Baan Phraporn to for an afternoon of health screening (by the nurses on our team) and reconnecting with the kids.  Then on Monday, we head from here to the conference with the Karen tribe believers in Maesot.  Looking forward to whatever else Jesus has in mind :-)

Thank you so much to those who have prayed.  We can feel your prayers and are grateful beyond words for each and every one of them!!!  Hopefully I’ll have time for one more update before we head back to the states on April 12!

Blessings to all!

I will be off to Thailand in a matter of hours…leaving tomorrow morning! I will be heading to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Maesot with a team of five other women and we will be gone from 3/28-4/12.  We pretty much lose Saturday in transit and will arrive very early Sunday morning (the middle of the night, really).   The first leg of the journey will be in Bangkok where we’ll be praying and ministering in the redlight district (check out the website for NightLight, one of the ministries we’ll be partnering with: www.nightlightbangkok.com/ ).  We’ll also be visiting a house of prayer just outside Bangkok (Southeast Asia House of Prayer-SEAHOP: www.seahop.org) and will also spend some significant time praying at the Grand Palace.

From Bangkok we’ll head north to Chiang Mai where we’ll be stopping by a Tribal Children’s home–Baan Phraporn  (translated House of Blessing, www.blessedhome.org)   These are the same kids we packed up and took all the way to the beach (about a 10-12 hour bus ride) two years ago.  We only get a couple of days with them this time around, but we can’t wait to see them!

Our final ministry stop will be in Maesot, which is near the Burmese border.  Maesot is about a five hour drive (over a very bumpy road!) from Chiang Mai.  I haven’t been there for nearly three years. The Karen tribe Baptist churches will be holding a large conference and they have asked us to participate.  We’ll basically do whatever is needed, some of which will include praying, teaching, playing games with the kids, and, in general, just helping out in whatever way we can.

We are VERY excited to see what the Lord will do during this time. Although we have several ministry activities planned, our main “activity” is prayer.  Thailand has always had open borders and there has been a significant Christian witness there for over 200 years…yet still only a miniscule percentage of the population are Christians.  We believe it is high time for that stronghold to be broken and for Jesus to have His inheritance among the nation and people of Thailand! I just know the Lord is moving and that breakthrough is coming to Thailand.

Isaiah 56:1 Thus says the Lord, “Keep justice and do righteousness, for My salvation is about to come, and My righteousness to be revealed.”  And to that I say, Amen!!

I’ll try to post some updates to this blog along the way if time and internet access allows.  We are very thankful for all who are willing to partner with us in prayer!

Hopefully I’ll be back with an update soon, until then…
